Hop plants and roots

Specialist nursery — 25 varieties grown organically and conventionally, delivered throughout France.

Bare root or potted plants? One- or two-year-old bare root plants have already developed their root system and suit larger plantings. The potted plant keeps its root ball: it is easy to plant individually and its planting window is more flexible.

Can you plant in October? Yes. Autumn planting is possible in soil that has drained well, is not frozen and has no standing water. Mulch after planting; plant bare root plants during their dormant period, as soon as they are available.

Buying hop plants in France

Hopstock is a nursery specialising in the sale of hop plants and roots, based in Hazebrouck in French Flanders. Our catalogue includes 25 varieties grown in France, offered as potted plants (2L), one-year bare root plants, two-year bare root plants, or XXL young plants (tray of 40 plugs), depending on availability. Whether you are a home brewer, a professional hop grower or a curious gardener, you will find the variety suited to your project.

Which plant formats do we offer?

Potted plant (2L): complete root system, ready to plant, ideal for private individuals and small gardens. Certified organic farming. One-year bare root: plant that has spent one year in open ground, suited to planting in quantity. Two-year bare root: very well-developed root system (30 to 70 cm), harvest from the first year. XXL young plant (plug x40): tray of 40 plugs produced by in vitro propagation, guaranteeing freedom from disease, for professional projects.

How to choose your hop variety?

Alpha acids determine the bittering power of hops. The figures shown are indicative variety reference values, not harvest analyses. Varieties with a low content (2-5%) such as Fuggle, Saaz or Hallertau Mittelfrüh are known as aroma varieties. Varieties with a high content (8-18%) such as Magnum, Chinook or Polaris are bittering varieties. Yield (high, medium, low) indicates cone productivity per plant.
